| Neutralizing
gas pressure with exercise may be as important for the well being of
the individual as the other benefits of sleep. So in a way, the
strenuous and relaxing exercises complement the actual sleeping
experience for middle aged and older people. You should have a
physician's examination and advice before beginning an exercise
program. Begin slowly with only a few exercises and increase the number
after many weeks. | |
While
lying under the covers on first your left side, then your back, and
then your right side, rotate each hand back and forth in a half circle
by twisting your arms at the elbow about ten times for each hand, first
with your hands gripped tightly and then open and loose. Also rotate
your feet back and forth by twisting your legs at the hip ten times.
First your right foot and then your left. Flex your right hand at the
wrist up and down ten times as if you were waving good-by. Flex your
right foot at the ankle ten times in the same manner. Do the same with
your left hand and left foot. Wiggle your fingers and toes at the same
time. Try four speeds: fast, medium, slow and none. Continue until
you feel relaxed. |
